Lions Club boosts primary healthcare in Warri with renovation, donation of medi-facilities

Warri Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) Centennial Lions Club, under District 404A1, Region 9 of Lions Club International, has scaled up its primary healthcare support programme, with the renovation of Ajamimogha Health Centre, Warri and its subsequent handover with delivery bed and other medical facilities to authorities of Warri South Local Government Council.

In his remarks shortly before the inauguration of the project Sunday June 28, the Chairperson of Region 9 District 404A1 of Lions Club International, Lion Timothy Oyibo, explained that the project was carried out after the necessary needs assessment.

Lion Oyibo, who described Lions Club as the biggest and largest in the world, stated that they step in where government cannot reach out in terms of community development.

The President of 2019/2020 Warri BIR Centennial Lions Club, Lion Tonwe Fredricka Omawumi, averred that the project is one of the things that makes the club exceptionally different in the society.

 

While noting that a bigger project that would have made the Club go to the Warri Dialysis Centre has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Lion Omawumi explained that the renovation of Ajamimogha Health Centre and the donation of delivery bed, plastic buckets and chairs, air conditioners and connection of the medical facility to public power supply, was to make people of the community and environs have, easy access to primary healthcare.

The Head (Olare-Aja) of Ajamimogha Community, Pa James Awani, described the project as a great thing of joy to people of Ajamimogha, saying, “it was done without we dropping a dime”.

 

The Head of Primary Healthcare Department, Warri South Local Government Council, Dr. Tosan Sagay, thanked the Warri BIR Centennial Lions Club for the gesture.

 

Highpoint of the ceremony was the commissioning of the health centre by the 2nd Vice District Governor of District 404A1, Lion Fortune Wagbatsoma.

Fresh Angle International gathered from Lion Barry Eboma that the Warri BIR Centennial Lions Club, which was formed when Lions Club International celebrated 100years of service to humanity, also distributed food items and packs of soft drinks to over 300 children in Ajamimogha Community.
