Erosion has completely damaged Ogga Community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Fresh Angle International can exclusively report.
The ancient agrarian community with a resident population of about three thousand people, woke-up in disbelief on 13th July, to the reality that the only road in the community has been swept away by gully erosion.
Findings by This Newspaper, revealed that successive governments in the state, have treated the road with reckless abandon, leaving the residents to lament in self-help.
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that people of the community have not just been maintaining the road, but all other roads connecting the community.
Investigations revealed that another major challenge confronted by residents of Ogga, is lack of access to health facilities in neigbouring Odo-Ere and other areas.
Agriculture, pottery making as well as other economic and social activities in the community have been totally paralyzed due to the worsening gully erosion.
The National President of Ogga Progressive Union, Bamidele Olure, who spoke to Our Kogi State Correspondent, appealed to the federal, state and local governments, to come to the rescue of the community, so that life in the community can return to normalcy.
According to him, without putting the road back to use, the socio- economic lives of the inhabitants of the community and other adjoining communities like Omi, Ogbom, Jege linking the Oke-Oyi Division of the Local Government Area, will be completely grounded.
