The Kogi State Chairman of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Amari Gabriel, has pleaded with the Kogi State Government to provide protective equipment for local government health workers, to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Comrade Amari Gabriel, made the appeal in Lokoja, during an exclusive interview with Our Kogi State Correspondent.
Comrade Amari, who bemoaned the non-availability of protective equipment for health workers at the grassroots, pointed out that the training on COVID -19 carried out by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for all the 21 local government councils’ health workers in the state, would be defeated if the equipment were not provided.
According to him, health workers have continued to put their lives in danger, due to non-availability of equipment such as hand gloves, face masks and sanitizers.
Comrade Amari noted that the community spread of the diseases was indeed worrisome and disturbing.
He called on people of Kogi State to always observe the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC guidelines such as regular hand washing, avoid shaking of hands, social distancing, avoiding over-crowded environment and the use of face mark.
