Dangote Truck Accident Survivor Recuperating amid critical condition

Son of the man crushed to death by Dangote Cement truck in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, on Tuesday has been resuscitated, but still in critical condition.

It was confirmed that the accident survivor, Kabiru Yusuf, was rushed to Lokoja City Clinic and Maternity around Maigari of Lokoja's palace in an unconscious state having lost much blood.

Kabiru, an indigene of Ajobe in Ankpa local government area of the state, survived the accident but his left hand was crushed by the truck.

After clinical assessment, aside crushed upper limb, he also sustained chest and abdominal injuries.

Speaking with journalists on hospital bed Tuesday night, Kabiru bemoaned the unfulfilled dreams of his father who was crushed to death by the truck.

He explained that himself, his sibling and their father were on their way to farm when the accident occurred.

"My father, Yusuf Amodu, is a retired soldier. After he retired from the military, he stayed briefly in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, before relocating to Lokoja. He farms cassava and process garri. He has plans to go into garri production on a larger scale.

"My father was industrious and had great plans for his family. He is currently building a house in the village with proceeds from his cassava business.

"We were actually going to farm to get cassava for a buyer. My father had planned to use proceeds from the sales to continue construction work on the house he is building in the village," he said.

Kabiru corrected earlier reports that his father and one of his sons were crushed to death by the truck. He said the truck tyres crushed his father to death while the truck ran over his left hand. However, his younger brother escaped unhurt. He confirmed only his father died in the fatal accident.

A Doctor at the Lokoja City Clinic and Maternity confirmed that Kabiru was brought in with a badly injured limb. He described his condition as a severe trauma case.

"His wounds will take time to heal. Aside the injured limbs, he sustained chest injuries.

"He need to be sorted by an orthopedic surgeon. We will arrange for one to attend to him here.

"However, he needs more blood. He needs four pints and has only gotten one," he explained.
