COVID-19: Premium Steel donates PPE to Delta Council

As part of her Corporate Social Responsibility to the host Udu communities, the Management of Premium Steel and Mines Limited, formerly called Delta Steel Company, Ovwian-Aladja, Delta State, has donated Personal Protective Equipment worth several thousands of naira to Udu Local Government Council with a charge to the authority of the council to continue the war on the dreaded corona virus with a view to curtailing the spread.

 

The donated items include 400 pieces of branded face masks, 4 pieces of infra-red Thermometers, 192 bottles of hand sanitizers and 24 bottles of liquid soap.

 

Presenting the items at the headquarters of Udu Local Government Area, Otor-Udu on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of Premium Steels and Mines Limited, Mr. Prasanta Mishra, who was represented by the General Manager, Projects, Engr Aloysius Nsindinanya noted that the virus, though not a death sentence, must be curtailed with all the arsenals at the disposal of the people through sensitization of the people and use of personal protective equipment because of the devastating effects of the virus on human lives and the economy.

 

Mr. Mishra maintained that Covid-19 as global phenomenon, has ravaged the economy of the world so much that all hands must be on deck to ensure the pandemic is curtailed for the world to return to normalcy hence the decision by management of the company to donate the items for use of Udu people so as to check the spread of the virus.

 

He appealed to the people to continue to observe all laid down rules, regulations and protocols put in place to curtail the spread in the area of periodic hand washing, use of face masks and hand sanitizers, which the company observed, could help protect the people from contracting the virus.

 

Receiving the items on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Chief Jite Brown, Secretary to the Local Government, Barr. Mrs. Eloho Awinoron thanked the management of Premium Steel and Mines Limited for the kind gesture, noting that with the current wave of community spread of the virus in the area, the items were coming at a strategic period targeted at helping the people with personal protective materials against the pandemic.

 

The Council boss added that the relationship between the council and the company was cordial and that efforts would continually be made to build on the existing relationship in the best interest of all.

 

Chief Brown added that government was doing everything within her ability to provide the needed logistics and institutional backing to check the virus, calling on the people to present themselves for the test so as to know their status instead of spreading the virus in ignorance since there are many carriers with no symptom of the virus in them.

The Council boss also appealed to other corporate organizations operating in the area to emulate the kind gesture of Premium Steel so as to help mobilize the stakeholders in the fight against the global pandemic which, he observed had claimed thousands of victims worldwide yet could be stopped if the people observed the needed precautionary protocols and protective measures.

  

On the delegation of Premium Steel and Mines Limited to Otor-Udu for the brief ceremony were Engr. Aloysius Nsindinanya, GM, Projects; Emmanuel Uduak Osuyak, Head of Health, safety and Environment; Mr. Emmanuel Etaghene, General Manager, Non-Core; Mr. Ellias Dogene, Manager, Community Relations and Engr. Anthony Ohiovbeunu, Senior Manager, Energy Distribution.
