A policemanserving with the ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police in Warri, Delta Statewas recently stabbed on his head and his uniform tore to shreds by a brother toa suspected criminal.

The incidentwhich occurred at about 3pm took place at Dimony Street, Okumagba layout in theheart of Warri.

Aneyewitness told Fresh Angle that four of the five policemen who were on amission to effect the arrest of one Ufuoma popularly known as ‘Ufuos’ were onmufti, laying ambush in the event of a possible escape by the suspect.

According toour source, as soon as the policemen sighted the suspect, they rounded him upwhile shooting into the air sporadically. In the process, a younger brother ofthe suspect whom, residents of the area alleged is an accomplice of Ufuomatried to help him resist arrest and a serious combat ensued between him and thepoliceman.

Fresh Angle however gathered that despite theattempted evasion of arrest by the suspects, the other four colleagues of thepolice officer who was stabbed succeeded in arresting Ufuos and took him to thepolice ‘B’ Division in Warri, while his brother that stabbed the police officerescaped.

Eyewitnessessay the arrest of Ufuos is not unconnected with his alleged criminal activitiesin the area, particularly an incident that occurred on December 31, 2011 whereoccupants of a three storey building by Obodo Street junction were robbed oftheir personal effects.

Ufuos whosemother is mentally derailed and his father critically ill lives at 11 Dimony Street,opposite Royal Group of Schools in Warri.

Someresidents of the area who spoke to Fresh Angle alleged that suspectedcriminals take refuge at the Ighogbadu Primary School aftercarrying out their nefarious activities, just as they called on the policeauthorities to rid the area of the suspects who have ceaselessly terrorizedinnocent citizens.

 

When OurCorrespondent visited the Police ‘B’ Division in Warri, a policeman whospoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident, even as he declinedgiving the name of the police officer who was stabbed.
