Eight public primary and secondary schools under Warri South Constituency 2 in Warri South Local Government Area; vis-à-vis Ikengbuwa, Pessu, Igbudu, Olodi and Ighogbadu Primary Schools as well as Edjeba Secondary School and Essi College I and II respectively, have received new 540 desks and 60 teachers’tables/chairs, courtesy of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, in concert with the Member representing Warri South Constituency 2 in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru.

While Ikengbuwa Primary School got sixty desks, six teachers’ tables/chairs, Pessu Primary School received sixty desks, six teachers’ tables/chairs and Edjeba Secondary School, took delivery of eighty desks and ten teachers’ chairs/tables.
Ighogbadu Primary School, received eighty desks and eight teachers’ chairs/tables, while Igbudu Primary School got sixty desks and six teachers’ chairs/tables, leaving Essi College 1 with fifty desks and six teachers’s chairs/ tables, with Essi College 2, receiving ninety desks and twelve teachers’chairs/tables. Olodi Primary School took delivery of sixty desks and six teachers’ chairs/tables.

Addressing newsmen Wednesday August 12, after the presentations, the Member representing Warri South Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, noted that the gesture which was an initiative of his Office, became imperative to allow pupils and students of the benefitting schools grow very well in a conducive academic environment, where teaching and learning would be pleasurable.
The lawmaker, who commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for midwifing the growth of education in the state, assured that more desks and teachers’ tables/chairs, would be provided across schools in the constituency, even as he promised that the blown off roof at Olodi Primary School, will be given the necessary attention.
Opuoru, who was accompanied by the Commissioner representing Ughelli, Udu, Uvwie and Urhobos of Warri in the Board of DESOPADEC, Mr. Vincent Oyibode, during the presentation at Pessu, Ikengbuwa and Igbudu Primary Schools as well as Essi College 1 and 2, appealed to management of the schools to ensure proper protection and effective use of the facilities.

While the Headmistress of Olodi Primary School, Mrs. Edede Vivian, stated: “It is unfortunate for the pupils to come to school and sit on the floor to learn. Sometimes it keeps me wondering how they will write, but i never knew you (Opuoru) will have the feeling like i do, to support and raise the chairs for them to sit comfortably to learn”, the Assistant Head Teacher of Ighogbadu Primary School, Mrs. Oteri Suzie, commended Hon. Opuoru and explained: “Some of the chairs have broken and have not been repaired. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, some pupils sit on the floor to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 rules”.
