The District Governor, DG of Rotary International, District 9141, Rotarian Virginia Major, has stated that she was, “totally shocked at how much”, that may have gone into the renovation of Ogunu Health-Care Centre, in terms of infrastructural facelift and provision of medical equipment, by the Rotary Club of Ogunu.

Fresh Angle International can report that DG Major, made the declaration Friday October 2, at Ogunu Community in Warri, Delta State, while inaugurating the renovated Ogunu Health-Care Centre.

Rtn. Major, who was particularly delighted with the attention given to details, in the execution of the multi-million naira project, commended Health Officials for working towards saving lives, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic.

President of Rotary Club of Ogunu, Rtn. Klem Douglas, stated that the Ogunu Health- Care Centre, was not in good state when the Club took it over for renovation.

He noted that the infrastructural project aspect, was initially put at the cost of five million naira, but the Club went ahead to procure medical equipment for the Health-Care Centre, originally built by Ogunu Community and run by Warri South Local Government Council.

Rtn. Douglas, disclosed: “We have applied for grant to equip it (the health centre) with ambulance”.

The Project Chairman, Rtn. Newton Ayiwe, in his welcoming remarks, revealed that renovation of the health care facility by Rotary Club of Ogunu, started in the 2018/2019 Rotary year, saying they were proud to present the new-look facility to the local government council.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Non-Indigenes’ Affairs, Chief Charles Iwuchukwu, averred that his administration was not surprised by the facelift given to the Health- Care Centre, considering what Rotary Club International did in the fight against Polio and other challenging health issues.

He urged people of Ogunu Community to safeguard the Health Centre, including the new medical facilities, assuring that his administration would continue to do the needful as it relates to primary health care.

The Matron-in-Charge of the Ogunu Health Centre, Mrs. Otomewo Gladys, disclosed that the centre has been chosen for Contributory Health and Basic Health Care Services, where free treatment for 0-5years and pregnant women would be undertaken.

She thanked Rotary Club of Ogunu for the gesture and pleaded for more assistance in terms of medical equipment.

The Assistant Secretary, Ogunu Traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders, Elder Julius Kpesu, who spoke on behalf of the community, appreciated Rotary Club of Ogunu for the renovation and medical facilities, assuring that they will ensure adequate protection for the health centre.
