Champions League: AC Milan, Napoli confirm resurgence of Serie A

The sparkling showing of Italian teams, AC Milan and Napoli in the on-going UEFA Champions league has shown that the Italian league which nosedived in the last ten years ,resulting in UEFA  considering reducing their champions league slots is beginning to gravitate towards its rightful place.

The 4 goal spanking of Arsenal by Italian giant, AC Milan in the first leg of the round of 16 in the on-going UEFA Champions league in San Siro as well as the comprehensive bashing of Chelsea by Napoli after eliminating Manchester City at the group stage speaks volume of the rebirth of Italian league and the seeming decline of Barclays premiership despite huge financial investments by foreigners. To imagine  that English premiership table toppers,Manchester City and Manchester United were eliminated at the group stages of the champions league and Napoli which currently seat in the 6th position of serie A  is still in the fray should give soccer fans who have written off the Italian league something to think about.

As it stands, only a miracle can save the two London teams , Arsenal and Chelsea from elimination in the round of 16 which AC Milan, Napoli and Inter Milan look set to go beyond , a feat which became a tradition of English teams in the last decade. The neck to neck battle between the Old Lady of Italian football, Juventus  and AC Milan over who wins  schudeto come May 2012 as well as the increase in the number of spectators at match venues in Italy further attests to the resurgence of Italian league and all those who have written off Italian football should start having a rethink because, the glory days of serie  A is back.
