Over 46 thousand have benefitted from our Pearls Quiz competition - Seplat reveals, as St. Michael Academy wins 9th edition

An indigenous oil and gas company, Seplat Nigeria Limited, says over 46 thousand students in secondary school, have benefitted from its Pearls Quiz Competition, since 2012 that the competition started.

 

Fresh Angle International understands that the Quiz Competition is part of activities by the company to enhance quality and qualitative education in Edo and Delta States.

 

The grand finale of this year’s edition, which is the 9th in the series, saw St. Michael Academy, Benin City, Edo State, defeating Mc Neil Academy, Sapele, Delta State, to win the coveted first prize.

 

St. Michael Academy, Benin City, Edo State, went home with seven million naira prize money, while Mc Neil Academy, Sapele, Delta State, which was the first runner up, got three million naira.

 

While delivering Seplat Nigeria Limited keynote address, the Company’s General Manager External Affairs and Communication, Dr. Chioma Nwachukwu, stated that it gives them joy to impact positively on the lives of students, stressing that the company invests much on education because of its importance.

Dr. Nwachukwu, added that it took the indigenous firm about six months to get the students ready for the Pearls Quiz Competition, revealing that 570 schools participated in the preliminary stage, adding that they introduced computer base test, because of COVID-19, before it reached the grand finale.

 

The Company's Image Maker, said the competition had helped to improve the performance of students seating for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination across the twin states, just as she commended the students as well as winners for their hard-work, charging them to shun vices that may derail their bright future.

 

Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Marcus Onobon, assured Seplat of providing enabling environment for company to thrive in the state.

 

The Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Ochor Ochor, in his remarks, assured secondary school students in Delta State of his support to ensure they emerge first in subsequent editions, reiterating the need for better education for all Deltans.

 

Our Senior Correspondent who was in Benin City to cover the event, reports that GloryLand College, Igara, Edo State, won the third position and went home with one million naira, leaving St. Johns Academy, Oleh in Delta State with the fourth position and consolation prizes, including cash and books.

Three students that participated were given one hundred thousand naira each. 

 

Addressing newsmen, Dr. Nwachuku, explained that Seplat is one of the indigenous oil and gas company that is listed in the Nigeria Stock Exchange.

 

Secretary to Edo State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie, represented by Mrs. Stella Maris Imasuen, commended Seplat, saying the company has impacted positively on the lives of the students.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that the Quiz Competition which held at Imaguero College in Benin City, witnessed large turnout of students from Edo and Delta States.

 

There was presentation of consolation prizes, including cash, books and laptops to the winner's school teachers.

 

Others that spoke include the three students of St. Michael Academy: Ehizogie Jeffrey, Iyere Godly and Okonofua Norbert.
