Ohanaeze 2021: OYC rejects Atiku’s men; Ben Obi and Agu as Chairman, Secretary of Electoral Committee

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has strongly rejected the appointment of Senator Ben Obi and Mr. Ferdinand Agu, perceived friends of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as Chairman and Secretary of the Electoral Committee set by the Imeobi of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to oversee and map out guidelines for the January 10, 2021 election of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization.

The OYC in a press statement made available to Fresh Angle International this morning, Wednesday December 9, demanded the suspension of the Electoral Committee, till it’s ratified by the General Assembly of Ohanaeze.

The Igbo Youth body claimed that the Electoral Committee was constituted Sunday December 6, saying: “It is not a coincidence, that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Imeobi meeting was fixed the same day PDP South-East Caretaker Committee was inaugurated in Enugu on 6^th Dec 2020”.

The statement signed by Secretary-General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike: “Charged Governors of South-East zone and other stakeholders to save the region by ascertaining if the Chairman and Secretary (of the Electoral Committee) are card carrying members of any political party or proponents of anti-South East 2023 Presidential agenda”, insisting, “without approval by the General Assembly of Ohanaeze based on constitution, the Electoral Committee members’ duties stand illegal and it could be contested in court”.

The statement emphasized: “The rejection of President Muhammadu Buhari by Igariwey -led leadership in interfacing with Igbo leadership prior to 2015 general elections by the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization and subsequent Nwodo's endorsement of Atiku, showed that Pro PDP Ohanaeze cabal had squandered the Goodwill of Igbo. There's alleged plans to stop the Igbo Presidency with a President-General that will opt for 2023 South-East VP slot and Northern Presidency in PDP”.

"It is in public domain that Nwodo led the Southern and Middtle Belt to institutes a court case before Abuja Court on laughable claim against Buhari and the laughable claims of marginalization which was a self-inflicted wound by pro PDP Ohanaeze since 2015. Igbo youths have observed that one, Senator Ben Obi and Ferdinand Agu, have featured prominently in the endorsement of PDP by Ohanaeze in 2011, 2015 and 2019. And their nominations as Chairman and Secretary respectively, clearly shows now that PDP loyalists and friends of Atiku, have hijacked Ohanaeze Electoral Committee to impose another pro--PDP Ohanaeze in the upcoming 2021 elections”, OYC statement alleged.
