Energetic grassroots politician and the member representing Warri South Constituency II in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, on Monday December 14, received the: ‘2020 DOYEN OF CIVIL SOCIETY AWARD OF RECOGNITION’, for his, “monumental strides of being a strong and clear voice of reason to the downtrodden and the less privileged citizens in the society.”

The award, which was courtesy of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Delta State on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, recognized Hon. Opuoru’s efforts at: “Giving hope to the most vulnerable of the vulnerable in your constituency, through the provision of consistent monthly stipends, for your unwavering support for civil society causes in the legislative House as well as to the pursuit of social welfare, good governance, restructuring and fiscal federalism”.

Fresh Angle International understands that as recipient of the award, Hon. Opuoru becomes a Civil Society Legislative Ambassador.

Recall that Hon. Opuoru, launched an empowerment programme tagged: " Matthew Poko Opuoru Grassroots Empowerment Scheme, MPOGES," with over 200 flag-off beneficiaries, cutting across the six wards that make up Warri South Constituency 2, going home with five thousand naira (N5,000) monthly.

The scheme, has since been expanded to accommodate more vulnerable people, apart from Hon. Opuoru’s strides in other forms of human capital and infrastructural development in his constituency.

Pessu Ward Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Warri South Local Government Area, Engr. Sunny Egbe, once described Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, who is the Chairman House Committee on Trade and Investment in Delta State House of Assembly, as, “the Igwe of Empowerment”, saying “people are already testifying of his (Opuoru) goodwill”.

Engr. Egbe, made the declaration after receiving a huge financial largesse from Hon. Opuoru Monday January 20,2020, as part of the Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru Grassroots Empowerment Programme.
