Tens of youths this morning, Saturday January 9, blocked the Ekurede Itsekiri/ Ugbori access from the NPA By - Pass in Warri, warning that if the perceived oppression against people of units 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Ekurede/ Ugbori Ward as regards production of the next councilor is not addressed, it would lead to crisis.
The protesters, who stated that only unit 11 in Ugbori has been producing counicilor for the ward in recent times, insisted that a purported gentleman agreement reached in 2017, that the councillorship position be ceded to another unit different from unit 11, must be respected.
Spokesman of the protesters, Joshua Onemebake, told Fresh Angle International at the protest venue that they will not relent until justice is done.
They carried placards with inscriptions such as: "This political oppression in Ugbori, if not properly resolved, will lead to crisis" and "Billy Mami, Oti Orugboh, Emiko Oghomienor, where are your conscience."
This Newspaper also understands that the councillorship position is gentlemanly rotated on two tenure basis between the twin communities, Ekurede Itsekiri and Ugbori in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
