The Acting Chairman/Director of Personnel Management of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Igbrude, has assured that the Council, will continue to support Legionnaires within the limits of her resources, “because we believe they still have critical roles to play in the quest to maintain peace and security in our area”.

Dr. Igbrude, gave the assurance Friday January 15 at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, Delta State, during the grand finale of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

While noting that the celebration of this Year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, reminds everyone of the need to jealously guard the unity of Warri South Local Government Area, she advised business enterprises to render discount and rebate men and women in uniforms as a symbol of appreciation for their sacrifices, saying such gesture will make life easier for them and deepen their patriotism.

Dr. Igbrude, averred that as the country honours the memory of the Nation’s fallen heroes and veterans, recounting their sacrifices during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and Peace Support Operations around the world, there was need to pay tribute to men and women currently engaged in internal security operations, particularly the ongoing fight against kidnapping, cult- related violence, insurgency, terrorism and banditry.

She noted that the spouses and defendants of the fallen heroes and veterans, experience trauma and deprivation, hence the need to support them, especially in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Warri South Chapter, Lt. Col. Odudu Richard (Rtd.) thanked authorities of Warri South Local Government Council and others who donated in support of the veterans.

He appealed that subsequent editions of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, be held with the usual parade.

The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Warri South Chapter, Dr. Triumph Etaoghene, in an exhortation taken from the book of Luke Chapter 1, opined that no one is exempted from the problem facing Nigeria.

According to him, the country would not be better, until everyone repent and embrace righteousness, insisting that it is only in righteousness that there will be peace in Nigeria.

The immediate past Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, represented by the former Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, represented by Chief Charles Ikomi and the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP Ezekiel Onyeke, were among dignitaries that graced the ceremony.
