Orphans demand investigation of alleged teenage prostitution, sex slavery in Kogi

The Association for Orphans and Vulnerable Children NGOs in Nigeria, AONN has condemned the reported cases of teenage prostitution and sex slavery in Kogi State, calling on the Kogi State Commissioner of Police Ayuba Edeh Ekpeji, to urgently investigate the allegation and ensure that everyone culpable is made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Association in statement made available to Our Kogi State Correspondent today, Wednesday January 27, noted that its attention was drawn to the recent investigation reportedly conducted by Wadata Media and Advocacy Center, Abuja, which revealed how some girls are being trafficked for prostitution.

The statement signed by the Kogi State Coordinator of AONN, Abaniwo C. Nathaniel, reads in part: “The Association for Orphans and Vulnerable Children NGOs in Nigeria (AONN) Kogi State Chapter  attention was drawn to the recent investigation reportedly conducted by Wadata Media and Advocacy Center, Abuja, which revealed how some girls are being trafficked for prostitution, from Northern States such as Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto and Bauchi to neighbouring countries like Chad and Niger Republic, enroute Kasuwan-Ruwa, a Suburb of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

AONN commended the wisdom and painstaking efforts of Wadata Media and Advocacy Center.

Wadata Media and Advocacy Center, had claimed that the man alleged to be behind the trafficking of the girls, identified as Small Lusher (not real name) reportedly gets the lion share from the trafficked prostitutes.

Further findings by the body revealed that the girls are convinced to relocate to Lokoja, with the hopes that they will get jobs as promised by their master (Small Lusher) but later end up becoming prostitutes and sex slaves.

While residents of the community continue to point fingers at some security agencies for aiding and abating the illegal trade, which exposes the girls to insecurity, psychological trauma, diseases, it was gathered that some of the girls get pregnant on regular basis and give birth, while others abort the babies.

According to Wadata Media Investigation, the suspect has opened another branch at Saban Zango, less than one kilometer to Kabba Junction, within Okene-Lokoja-Abuja High Way.
