Fresh crisis is brewing in Ubeji Community, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State over who is the true Olare-Aja (oldest man) in the community, Fresh Angle has learnt.
While one Pa. Akoma whose influence in the community has grown so big over the years following his deep involvement in land sales, is claiming to be the real Olare-Aja (oldest man in the community) a retired headmaster and indigene of the community, Pa. Vincent Toritsemugbene Nikaghanre, who is speculated to be having the backing of the Olu of Warri is also laying claim to be the community oldest man.
Feelers from the community indicate that two male children of the feuding elders are said to be fueling the unfolding crisis by using their monies to woo security details guiding the community, which is one of the hosts to Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company, WRPC and Nigerian Gas Company.
Reports say it took the intervention of soldiers at the entrance of the community who were initially believed to have been compromised to avert an open bloody confrontation between supporters of both elders in the early hours of Thursday June 19, at the home of Pa. Akoma after one of the community youths loyal to one of the elders was severely beaten Wednesday June 18.
Fresh Angle can also report that soldiers guiding the community have launched a house to house search operation in the community for arms to prevent the tension from escalating.
