Marginalization: Establish University in Warri or upgrade COEWA, INDI tasks Okowa
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa

The Itsekiri National Development Initiative, INDI, has called on Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to correct the perceived marginalization of Warri and consider Warri for the establishment of a University, stating: “Apart from being one of the oldest cities in Nigeria, without a University named after it, Warri is the economic hub of Delta State, contributing huge crude oil resources to the Federation, which in turn shares 13% as derivation to the State”.

While canvassing for the upgrade of College of Education, Warri, COEWA to a University and a campus in Warri North Local Government Area as an alternative to the establishment of a fresh University in the Oil City, INDI in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International this morning, Wednesday February 10, posited that the establishment of University in Warri, “will be more accessible to students from Sapele, Uvwie, Udu, Okpe as well as Ughelli North and South Local Government Areas, seeking admission into the University and will open up the areas for development”.

The statement signed by President of INDI, Comrade Dennis Abugewa Mene, emphasized:We wish to state here that, we see no need in the upgrade of Anwai campus of the Delta State University to a full-fledged University with College of Education Agbor, COEAGBOR, when both institutions are not more than 15 kilometers from each other.

“We wish to call on the Delta State Executive Council and Delta State House of Assembly to look into this issue of marginalization of the Itsekiri Nation in the upgrade of University. We wish to also call on our leaders/ representatives, both at the Federal and State levels, to be patriotic, proactive and innovative, to attract meaningful development to Itsekiri Nation in particular and Warri Kingdom as a whole”.
