The first community FM in Warri with the name, Warri Community FM, today Wednesday February 10, began test-transmission on frequency 102.1, Fresh Angle International can report.
The Radio Station, which is situated on the Topmost Floor of a 3-Storey Building by NPA Bypass, close to Fresh Angle International Office in Warri, commenced test-running of technical equipment today, while test-running of On-Air Broadcast, will begin Monday February 15.
The Oil City of Warri already has Delta Broadcast Service Melody FM, Crown and Kpoko FMs, Rize FM and Mega FM, but unlike the existing FMs, This Newspaper understands that Warri Community FM would broadcast mostly in Itsekiri Language.
The C.E.O of Warri Community FM 102.1, Mr. Ekpoto Ekpoto Emmanuel, who spoke to a Warri based Journalist, reportedly stated that the main focus of the Station, “is to disseminate quality information and promote local development, especially in the grassroots”, assuring that the Radio Station will address pressing issues in Warri and its environs, with emphasis on the Itsekiri ethnic Nationality.
Whilst enjoining people of Warri to see the Station as their own, Mr. Ekpoto noted: “The Radio Station is a Community Development Initiative”.
