The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has given political parties 6pm of March 8, 2021, as deadline for submission of list of nominated candidate for the Saturday March 20, 2021 Ekiti-East Constituency I Bye-Election, Fresh Angle International can report.
The vacancy arose as a result of the death of Hon. Adegbuyi Oluwajuwa Amos, member representing Ekiti -East Constituency I in the State House of Assembly and the subsequent declaration of vacancy by the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.
According to a Press Release signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye Esq. decisions reached on the conduct of the Bye-Election, was sequel to a meeting held by the Commission Tuesday February 23, where a number of issues, including the conduct of the Bye-Election into vacant seat of Ekiti-East Constituency 1 of Ekiti State was deliberated upon.
The Release dated today, Wednesday February 24, noted: “Political parties shall conduct their primaries between 26th February and 3rd March 2021, while the last day for submission of list of nominated candidate is at 6pm on the 8th of March 2021”.
The Commission: “Enjoins all political parties, intending to field candidates, to pay close attention to the time- table and schedule of activities and to conduct transparent and valid party primaries that meet the provisions of Section 87 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended)”.
