Education under attack in Northern Nigeria, AI tweets as bandits kidnap hundreds of female students

Amnesty International, AI, has raised fresh alarm, saying education is under attack in Northern Nigeria, Fresh Angle International can report.

In a tweet few minutes ago, AI which reacted to reports of the kidnap of about 300 female students in a Girls Secondary School in Zamfara State, stressed the need for schools to be safe, so as to avoid situations where children would abandon their education.

The BBC had reported early this morning, Friday February 26, that armed bandits have attacked a Girls Secondary School in Zamfara State, kidnapping many female students.

The attack reportedly occurred at the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A teacher in the school confirmed the attack to BBC Hausa with the number of kidnapped students said to be close to 300.

“Schools should be places of safety and no child should have to choose between their education and their life. Other children have had to abandon their education after being displaced by frequent violent attacks on their communities”, Amnesty International stated.
