Authorities of Warri South Local Government Council have declared state of emergency on environmental sanitation with effect from July 1, 2014.
Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye who dropped the hint Saturday June 28, while monitoring a well co-ordinated evacuation of refuse and clearing of overgrown weeds across major streets in Warri, Delta State stated that the programme which is a fresh strategy by his administration to rid Warri of refuse will see the council engaging Special Community Marshalls.
According to the Warri South Council boss, the Special Community Marshalls which is being facilitated by his administration will incorporate community leaders who will make nominations for the Marshalls and ensure that the members who will be resident in their areas of operation strictly monitor indiscriminate dumping of refuse as well as operation of illegal motor parks.
Dr. Uroye who was visibly displeased with the sanitary condition around Muyi Line along Warri Sapele Road after initial warning, ordered owner of the transport company to see him latest Monday June 30 or face stoppage of the company’s operation.
He ordered operators of the motor park opposite Ugbuwangue Market in Warri to relocate and warned traders along Ugbuwangue Market areas to immediately stop the dumping of refuse at the middle of the NPA Expressway.
Dr. Uroye who was flanked by his Vice, Mr. Dafe Ikpuri, Transition Committee members, the Warri South Council Head of Environment department, Mr. Akpodiete Ghana as well as environmental health officers, supervised the evacuation of refuse in areas such as Warri Sapele road by Ginuwa and Agbasa junctions, Esisi road by the bridge, NPA Expressway by Ugbuwangue, front of Agbeje Primary School in Ugbuwangue Community and Warri-Sapele road close to First Marine Gate.
