NDLEA arrests 96 suspects, seizes 3,394kg of drugs in Kogi

The Commandant of National Drug Law Enforcement  Agency, NDLEA Kogi State, Alhaji Idris Bello has disclosed that his command has arrested 96 suspected drug smugglers and seized 3,394kg of illicit drugs, Our Roving National Correspondent reports.

Fresh Angle gathered that out of the illicit drugs seized, Cannabis accounted for 3, 392.15kg; Psychotropic substance weighed 250 grams, while Volatile solvent accounted for 1.7kg.

The State NDLEA Commandant made the disclosure while speaking at this year’s United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at Nostalgia hotel in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Speaking on the theme “the message of hope, Drug abuse Disorders are treatable and preventable,” Alhaji Bello averred that not putting into cognisance the harm done to the society through drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, will amount to a disservice to the present and future generation of Nigeria. This according to him calls for urgent need to arrest any illegal substance or suspect capable of denting the image of the society.

Alhaji Bello called on government at all levels, Non Governmental Organizations, NGOs as well as public spirited individuals to assist the command in tackling the activities of illicit drug peddlers.

Fielding questions from reporters on the issue of insecurity in the country, Alhaji Bello attributed influence of drugs as a major factor triggering the activities of insurgency.

Earlier in his remark, Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada who was represented by the Solicitor General of the State, Mr. Tunde Bello commended the effort of the command as he reiterated the commitment of his administration in ensuring that Kogi State becomes a drug free state.
