Why we stopped Students from celebrating After Final Examination- Kogi Poly Rector


The Kogi State Polytechnic, Rector, Dr. Salisu Ogbo, has given reason why the management of the institution stopped students from celebrating after finishing their final year examination.

 

 

Dr. Ogbo, who disclosed this when he received the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, NITP, on Monday in his office said cultist uses the happy moment of the students to cause mayhem on campus.

 

The Polytechnic Rector, recalled that in 2019, a student was killed at the back of the Polytechnic Matriculation Ground when some suspected cultist clashed inside the school after student finished their final examination.

 

He said the institution which was established over 29 years ago has been faced with cult related activities which has been curb since assuming office in 2020.

 

"Whenever students are finishing their examination, there would be gunshot everywhere. The height of it all is when a student was killed at the matriculation ground.

 

 

"We got security reports that the killing of 2019 will be avenge in 2021 based on security reports. That was why we passed a circular that nobody would be allowed to celebrate on campus. How do they normally go about this?

 

"They will start with pouring water, later mud, and then it turns to acid and many more. During such celebration, that is how cultist come out to unleash mahem.

 

"How will you celebrate end of exam when you have not seen your result. By the grace of God, we were able to put things in order to avoid the break down of law and order on campus. I can't condemn my predecessors. I must improve on what they have build upon that is why I was appointed by his excellency" he stated.

 

Dr. Ogbo, who lauded NITP for donating many books to the school library said since the present management came on board, they have injected over 80million on library development through TETFUND.

 

Earlier, the National President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, (NITP), TPL Olutoye Ayinde said planning preeced development, stressing that many areas have been developed without proper planning.

 

He emphasized that the failure of professionalism often result to failure of any nation, just as he charged the rector to assist the student in terms of equipment and improvement in welfare of workers in the institution.

 

 

Ayinde, who is a former Commissioner in Lagos state however congratulate the Rector on his appointment stressing that he has done more in such a short time encouraging him to do more.

 

Also speaking, the National Vice President of the Institute, TPL Nathaniel Atebije, in his remarks expressed satisfaction on the level of construction work going on in the Polytechnic, under the present leadership of Dr. Ogbo, adding that the Rector is an embodiment of humility, hard work and doggedness.
