Abiteye, Utonana Fields: Meetings ongoing to achieve peaceful resolution, Okorodudu reveals

Immediate past Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, Amb. Aduge Okorodudu, has revealed that meetings were ongoing at the state and local government levels as well as among community leaders in Chevron's Abiteye, Utonana and Makaraba Fields to achieve peaceful resolution and ensure that the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited and other critical stakeholders, conduct the much anticipated Joint Investigation Verification, JIV to ascertain the cause of the recent crude oil spill in the communities.

Amb. Okorodudu, in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International today, Sunday April 18, acknowledged the efforts of Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro to sustain the existing peace in the creeks.

He stated: "We are at the verge of repeating a past mistake that drove investors from our land. The past crisis has cost us a lot and it is a mistake we can't afford to repeat. We used to have Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and other bigger foreign companies in our area. Where are they today? Let us recall the priceless cost of peace and embrace peace now, before it is too late. The Deputy Governor, Barr. Otuaro, who happens to be from the Gbaramatu area, celebrated his birthday back home as an opportunity to preach peace to the people".

The former Warri North Local Government Chief Security Officer, advised the young and old in the communities affected by the crude oil spill, to key into the ongoing peace progress, so as to avert bloodletting between Gbaramatu Ijaws and the Chevron Itsekiri host communities.
