INDI accuses NDDC of marginalizing Itsekiris in execution of projects, employment
Mr. Effiong Akwa

The Itsekiri National Development Initiative, INDI, has accused the management of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC of marginalizing Itsekiri Nation in terms of execution of projects, appointment and employment, saying: "As the highest producer of crude oil in Delta State and second in Nigeria, Itsekiri Nation deserves far more than what it is getting from the Niger Delta Development Commission".

INDI in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International last night, Thursday April 23, stated: "This demonic act of undermining the Itsekiris have been on since the last substantive Board of the Commission and the Interim Management Boards that have been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari till date".

The statement signed by President and General Secretary of INDI, Comrades Dennis Mene and Akatakpo Omatseye, respectively, added : " The marginalization is evident in the appointment of SAs to the current Interim Administrator of the NDDC, Mr. Effiong Akwa and the employment of 300 staff, with no single Itsekiri engaged. The so called employment was done in secrecy.

"They have consciously abandoned the few projects of the Commission in Itsekiri land, such as the Omadino - Escravos Road, Koko - Ogheye Road and others. The abandonment is to ensure Itsekiri Nation never get what is due to it ".

While calling for the immediate suspension of issuance of employment letters to the the 300 persons allegedly employed secretly by the NDDC management, the Itsekiri group, tasked the National Assembly to investigate the purported employment, " done without following due process, fairness and equity".

INDI, also demanded the immediate removal of Mr. Effiong Akwa as Interim Administrator of the NDDC: "For his lack of wit to manage the Commission as well as carry all tribes in the Niger Delta along in the administration of the Commission".
