Police reports rescue of teenager kidnapped four years ago

The Police in Delta State, has reported the rescue of a teenager, Jamila Shagari, allegedly kidnapped four years ago, while playing in her village surroundings in Niger State.

According to a statement by the Delta State Police Command, the rescue carried out Sunday June 20, was sequel to the unrelenting manhunt of child traffickers’ intelligence at the Command disposal.

Jamila Shagari, who is now 16 years old, was seen roaming around a church premises in Asaba, attracting some good Nigerians, who suspected that all was not well with her.

The Commander Eagle Net Special Squad, later detailed Operatives to the scene and the teenager was brought to the station.

The statement which was signed by the Ag. Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, noted: “The victim, Jamila Shagari (female) age 16yrs, also narrated that she was twelve years old when she was kidnapped and brought to one Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor  (female) age 39yrs resident of No. 15 Kingdom Hall Umunede Community and her name was changed to Dorcas Peter by the said suspect and taken to Lagos, where she was handed over to one Azubuike, she served him as a house help for two years, after much suffering in Mr. Azubuike’s house, she then returned to Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor in Umunede, who later handed her over to one Mrs. Vera Olunwa (female) age 62yrs, resident of opposite Koka junction, Asaba-Ibusa Express Way, Asaba. The two suspects; Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor  (female) age 39yrs  and Mrs. Vera Olunwa (female) age 62yrs,  were arrested, while  two other children; Nuhu Yohanna (male) age 12yrs and Abednego Joshua (Male) age 11yrs, who were in custody of Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor, were also rescued”.

The Police also reported that Men of Safer Highway Patrol, who were on stop-and-search duty along Warri-Sapele Road, intercepted one Amusa Transport Company Bus on June 7 and one of the suspects on reasonable suspicion, was asked to come down with his luggage for search.

According to the Police, on searching the said suspect, 20 exotic phones, three laptops, suspected to have been stolen and one charm bullet proof, were recovered from him.
