The Delta State Local Content Agency, DSLCA, has promised to organize specialized programmes, training for entrepreneurship development and provide start-up packages, for empowerment of community contractors and workers.

 

The Director-General of DSLCA, Dr. Morris Idiovwa, made the promise, Monday June 28, at Governor's Office Annex, Warri, during a press briefing.

 

He stated: “We wish to bring to your notice, the establishment of the Delta State Local Content Agency (Hereinafter referred to as the Agency) by the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, which said Agency was created on the 15th day of September, 2020, Pursuant to the Delta State Local Content Agency Law, 2020 (Hereinafter referred to as "the Law").

 

The functions of the Agency include; “To aid local indigenous companies to exploit local opportunities, while staying competitive, to organize specialized programs and training for entrepreneurship development, including start-up, establishment and economic empowerment of community contractors and workers. To coordinate and embark on programs to increase indigenous Local Content in the operation of companies in Delta State. To facilitate the provision of local content jobs and project partnership through a network of local, national and international organizations and agencies, as well as private sector bodies, community-based and civil society organizations in the State. To monitor and ensure compliance with the terms of any Memorandum of Understanding, General Memorandum of Understanding and Agreements executed between Companies and host and impacted communities within the State.

 

“The creation of this Agency became imperative as Delta State, due to her coastal nature, plays host to several extractive industries, and this is to further enhance the industrialization drive by His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his Government.

 

“The Agency currently has her headquarters in Asaba, the State Capital and a branch office in the city of Warri, Delta State.

 

We urge you, to henceforth liaise with the Agency on matters bothering on local content host communities and companies' relationship.”
