Some indigenes of Omadino Community in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, have accused owner of Eagle Height University, a privately owned institution in Warri of developing a portion of land not acquired from the community.

One of the Chief Priests of Omadino, Roland Yomere stated that in 2004/2005, owner of the university, approached the community for land where the institution will be built, requesting for 30 acres of land and later came back demanding for additional 70 acres, in order for the university to be approved, which was duly granted.

Yomere noted: “What the community gave is 100 acres of land in total, nothing more. We must be compensated for peace to reign".

They expressed dismay over the alleged use of the Nigerian Army as shield, while fencing the land in question, urging the church that owns the institution to immediately reach a resolution with them on the, “additional land”.

Yomere, who addressed newsmen Tuesday August 3, during a peaceful protest at Omadino in Warri South Local Government Area, accused Omadino indigenes representing the community in the land committee set-up to address the issue, of representing their own interests, saying they have lost confidence in them.

He commended the Omadino Youth President, Mr. Niro Omaro and the taskforce Chairman, Etami Atakere, for their roles so far on the controversy surrounding the “additional land”.

Chief Priest Yomere, stated that mediating efforts by some clerics, with a view to reaching a resolution, has not yielded fruit, adding: “They should go to the area with their survey plan and document to determine where the land ends”.
