Police arrests 32- year old impostor


Detectives from the Police Command in Warri, Delta State have arrested one 32-year old Freeborn Abedenego, at Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri South- West Local Government Area for allegedly parading himself as a Police Inspector.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu, the suspect has swindled  many unsuspecting persons of various sums of money by promising to assist them get recruited into the Force.

The said Freeborn Abedenego reportedly claimed he was recruited into the Nigeria Police Force in 2007 and voluntarily left in 2009.

Fresh Angle learnt that items recovered from Abedenego include three pairs of PMF (Police Mobile Force) uniforms with different name tags, coupled with Inspector’s badges of rank from 16PMF, two extra pairs of PMF trousers, one police cardigan, three pairs of PMF jungle booths, one police helmet, one police belt and one fake rank as well as file identity card.

Meanwhile, a police patrol team has shot a robbery suspect on the leg along Aladja road, opposite the former Delta Steel Company, Ovwian, while another member of the gang reportedly escaped.

Troubled started at about 22:30 hours Wednesday July, 23 when an Anti-Crime Patrol Team from Aladja Division of the Nigeria Police intercepted a red Golf car with Reg. No. AL 968 JRT with six occupants (four males and two females).

In the process of searching the car, one of the male suspects escaped, while another male suspect was shot on the leg in an attempt to escape and he and the remaining four occupants of the car were arrested.

One black bag containing two locally made cut-to-size single barrel guns, twenty three live cartridges, two handsets and a wrap of Indian hemp were allegedly recovered from them according to a police report.

As at the time of this report the injured suspect was said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while efforts are on to track down the fleeing
