Jeddo Community Youths in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, have threatened to retaliate the killing of their Vigilante Chairman, Mr. Jude Akieru, popularly known as Scosco, by five gunmen.
Fresh Angle International had reported earlier today, Friday August 20, how gunmen at about 2am, killed Mr. Jude Akieru at Oil Junction in Jeddo, following his refusal to off the torch light he pointed at the gunmen in the course of his assignment.
One of Jeddo Youths, Ubada Umukoro, who spoke to Our Correspondent at the community Town hall, after the reported death of Mr. Akieru, declared: "We will soon strike back, because they've killed a bona fide indigene of this town.
"We want the youths to rule Jeddo Community, not Unuevbworo and Olotu. Because when something happens in Jeddo, instead of addressing it, they will go to Orerokpe Police Station. Now they've killed the head of our vigilante and he is a bona fide indigene of this town.
"Unuevbworo is busy asking government to help, while we (the youths) can handle it.
Nobody should pay attention to what Unuevbworo is saying, because we will soon strike back and by the time we will strike, we won't look back, because it's forward ever."
The Unuevbworo of Jeddo, Mr. Judge Owarume, while responding to the killing of the vigilante chairman and the subsequent violent reaction, condemned the destruction of a mosque in the town, saying he didn't send the youths to carry out such action.
He enjoined everyone living in Jeddo to be peaceful, saying: “The government will fish out those responsible for the death of Akieru”.
Your Soaring International Tabloid, gathered that Jeddo youths allegedly scattered the mosque, because they felt it was the Hausas in Jeddo that were responsible for the death of Jude Akieru.
The youths, reportedly chased the Hausas resident in Jeddo, asking them to leave, but were resisted by security forces (Red Berets) who allegedly pointed gun at them (Jeddo Youths). The ensuing faceoff between the security agents and the youths, resulted in the destruction of the mosque.
In a meeting called by Jeddo Community leaders, the DPO of Orerokpe Police Division, Oluwole Ojo, promised to unravel the killers of Akieru and bring them to justice, even as he pleaded with the community leaders, to work with the police, by giving them vital information that would help track the gunmen.
