Authorities of Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State, on Friday September 17, intervened and opened up the garbage blocking the Okere Ugborikoko Road by Polokor Bridge, connecting Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas.

Dig-Deep by Fresh Angle International, revealed that some residents in the area, emptied the waste on the major road in a bid to free the flow of water, when flood ravaged some houses within the axis few days ago, as a result of blockage of the canal. The canal, serves as a natural water channel from parts of Airport Road in Uvwie, to a section of Okumagba Layout in Warri South Local Government Area.

Our Findings, further revealed that blockage of the canal was as a result of the erection of structures on parts of the natural water channel and the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the canal.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael .E. Tidi, who spoke to This Newspaper in an exclusive interview, Friday September 17, condemned the emptying of the garbage on the major road, saying he expected those responsible to be ashamed of what they did.

Whilst acknowledging that it would be difficult for Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Councils to sustain evacuation of the waste due to the blockage of the canal, Dr. Tidi, disclosed that his administration had engaged the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, with a view to opening up the natural water channel.

According to him, the agency assured that the blocked canal at Polokor, is among the areas that were penciled down for the storm drainage project, being embarked upon by Delta State Government.

The Warri South Council Boss, disclosed that houses that were erected along the canal at Okere Ugborikoko Road by Polokor, have been marked for demolition and in no distant time, earth- moving heavy equipment would be mobilized to the area for the needful.

The Warri South Council Head of Environment Department, Mrs. Stella Mode, who conducted Your Soaring International Tabloid, round the canal, supervised the evacuation of the garbage along the road by labourers engaged by the Council on the behest of Dr. Michael Tidi.
