Federal Commissioner on the Board of the Nigeria Population Commission, Olorogun Sir Richard Odibo, has been conferred with the title of the Ogbajirhohwo of Udu Kingdom by the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Barr E.B.O Delekpe JP, Owhorhu 1.

The ceremony took place on Saturday at the temporary palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom at Aladja, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State with the monarch conferring titles on other deserving sons and daughters of the Kingdom who were earlier screened and confirmed ahead of the ceremony.

Sir Odibo, who was at the palace a day earlier on a courtesy visit to the Udu Monarch with representatives of an Oil and Gas Company, BN Industries to introduce the new company to the traditional rulers and chiefs of the Kingdom, was commended by the monarch for his efforts at encouraging the company to be cited in Udu. The monarch therefore invited him over on his way to Abuja on Saturday for a private chat only for the King to unveil the reason for his invitation to the palace in a big way.

At the palace, while paying the traditional homage to the authority of the Kingdom, the Monarch announced to the pleasant surprise of Sir Richard Odibo and all the Chiefs present that he was conferring the title of Ogbajirhowho of Udu Kingdom on Odibo as a token of appreciation for his services to the Kingdom, drawing thunderous applause from all the nobles. The title was immediately conferred on him.

Addressing newsmen shortly after bagging the new title of Ogbajirhowho of Udu Kingdom, meaning,’’ We also have a strong man’’ in Udu Kingdom, Olorogun Sir Richard Odibo, expressed great delight with the development, noting that though he was not prepared for the ceremony, he had no reason to reject the honour considering the way it came without stress and the usual screening and bottlenecks associated with such titles.

He commended the Ovie of Udu Kingdom for the honour, pledging to devote the rest of his life to the service of Udu and humanity. He explained that the company that is moving into Udu was an oil and gas-based company to be sited on a large expanse of land covering over 200 hectares and that when fully in operation, Udu stands to benefit greatly from it.

He assured that he was going to invest his time, energy and recourses in serving the Udu people, adding that all that would be required from the people were prayers and cooperation with the company so they could bring the foreign investors to promote and impact on the industrial climate in the Udu area.
