The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM (Dr.) Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, OON, Abe 1, offered scholarship to 260 pupils and not 160 as erroneously published in sections of the media recently.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that the clarification was made today, Monday October 11, by the Coordinator of Abe 1 Scholarship Scheme, Dr. (Chief) Samuel Jimoh Eshenake, during a press briefing held in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

 

According to Dr. Eshenake, the cost implication of the cheques handed down to the beneficiaries at the Ovie of Uvwie Palace on Thursday October 7, 2021 was N3.2 million.

 

Eshenake, who is also the Secretary of Uvwie Traditional Council of Chiefs and Unuevworo ( Traditional Mouth Piece) of Etch R ' Ohorie ( Traditional Administrative Unit ) in Uvwie Kingdom, further disclosed that non-indigenes in Uvwie Local Government Area, were among beneficiaries of the scheme, which was established over ten years ago.

 

On his part, the Chairman of the Scholarship Scheme, Prof. John Arubayi, who spoke at the event, disclosed that beneficiaries were selected on merit, through a written examination, assuring that serious pupils could benefit from the scheme up to university level.

 

Whilst stating that the beneficiaries are in basic, secondary and tertiary categories, Arubayi expressed appreciation to the Uvwie Monarch for the scheme.

 

He also commended Uvwie Chiefs for their financial contributions toward the scholarship scheme.

 

In his remarks, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Abe 1, stated that education was his foremost priority in his ruler-ship of Uvwie Kingdom, emphasizing that education is key to any meaningful development.

 

The Traditional Ruler, was also full of praises to Uvwie Chiefs and Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, “for their financial contributions toward the scholarship scheme”.

 

A physically challenged parent of one of the beneficiaries, Patience Ogbe, who spoke to newsmen at the event, appreciated the Uvwie Monarch for the scheme.

 

According to her, the Traditional Ruler has shown that the he has the interest of indigenes and non-indigenes of Uvwie kingdom at heart.

 

"God bless him for putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged", She added.

 

The President - General of Uvwie General Improvement Union, UGIU, Chief Hope Abovi Erute, noted that the scheme was a great relief to parents of the beneficiaries, considering the prevailing economic crunch in the country, saying government cannot provide free education at all levels. 

 

The Chairman of Media Committee of the Ovie of Uvwie Palace, Chief Fidelis Adjeke and a respected palace Chief, Sunny Popo, who spoke to journalists, congratulated the beneficiaries, urging them to be serious with their studies, so as to benefit up to university level.
