Okowa tasks parents, teachers on children’s upbringing

The Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has enjoined parents and teachers to pay adequate attention to the children, saying they represent the future of Nigeria.

He said the future and wellbeing of any society depends on the quality of succeeding generation, and therefore said, efforts should be made to give them good education and guided upbringing.

Senator Okowa, who gave the charge in Warri, Delta State, stressed that it was necessary for parents to devout more and quality time in raising their children to responsible adults, who would later contribute meaningfully to the society.

He equally challenged teachers and school authorities to always do the needful in impacting knowledge in pupils and students, saying, “we must raise children who have character and integrity. Schools and parents should know they are stakeholders in building the Nigerian child. There must be proper guidance of our children, knowing that they are the future of this great nation”. 

He expressed worry over the quality of many products of primary and secondary schools in the country, which he observed cannot read nor write, and therefore not really prepared for higher institution and ultimately the larger society.

“There is a lot to worry about the products of our schools. I worry about the quality of our teachers. However, I believe there are some schools that are doing well. I believe also there are schools not doing well. It is therefore necessary for all to work for a better future for our children” he stated.
