The National President of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN, Mrs. Sotonye Toby Fulton has condemned the spate of senseless bombings in the northern part of Nigeria, particularly the incident at the Saint Finbar’s Catholic Church, Jos.
Mrs. Fulton bare her mind at Asaba, Delta State during the swearing-in of a new state executive council of ACNPN. She stressed that Quran does not preach violence and Islamic religion does not promote disharmony among diverse people.
She declared “ACNPN has called on all Muslims in Nigeria and especially those in Northern part of the country to preach peace, love andunity among its fold and cautioned the youths to desist from acts capable of disintegrating Nigeria”.
According to the National President and Publisher of the Gist Newspaper based in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, the Association of Community Newspaper publishers of Nigeria will commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives or injured in the mayhem. Adding that the authorities involved should put a drastic action inplace to reduce the ugly trend before it gets out of hand.
Mrs. Sotonye Fulton, equally appealed to the federal government to provide jobs for the teeming youths so as to forestall the increasing crime rate in the country.
Fulton an entrepreneur, journalist and erudite publisher described the Jos mayhem as an omen which has painted the image of the country black before the International Community and potential investors.
She however maintained that publishers of community newspapers under the platform of ACNPN are ever ready to partner with the federal government in a bid to stop the ugly scenario in the country through the pen. “To achieve this goal, government at all levels must come to the aid of community Newspaper publishers by improving their capacity to perform optimally”, the ACNPN President advised.
