The Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Warri Chapel, Comrade Daniel Oji has appealed to youths in Warri and environs not to allow politicians to use them for thuggery in the forthcoming elections.
Comrade Daniel Oji made the appeal Saturday September 20 during a walk for peace exercise tagged “we are one” organized by NUJ DBS in conjunction with Living in Peace, a Non Governmental Organization, NGO in Warri, Delta State.
According to Comrade Daniel Oji, “let the politicians use their own children if they want to fight, if they must use thugs, then let them use their own children.”
He opined that “there is nothing like peace during election, you see people snatching ballot box, fighting and killing each other. We don’t want it any longer. October 25th and February 2015 is not far, so let everybody maintain peace. Elections are not a do or die affair. Let the winner take it all. That is why we are calling on the youths to maintain peace and not to allow themselves to be used by those selfish people.”
Comrade Oji explained that the walk for peace tagged “we are one” became necessary “to celebrate the peace we have been enjoying in Warri, its environ and Delta. We are happy that it is happening in our time. Between 1999 and 2000, there was crisis here and there but today everywhere is peaceful and development is taking place. The State government is working very well because of the peace that we are enjoying. So we decided that we will call on everybody in Warri and environs. Ekpan, where they are always fighting, we will go there and tell them to live in peace because without peace there is no development.”
He commended those who took part in the walk, stating that it was successful and no casualty was recorded. In his words, “the walk for peace was very successful. We are happy because there was no injury. Everybody was happy. I want to thank those who took part in the walk for peace and those who made it a success. ”
Our Correspondent reports that the walk for peace took off from DBS Warri premises at Edjeba to Nigeria Port Authority, NPA to Igbo Market through Okumagba Estate enroute Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area back to DBS.
