LG Poll: ICM threatens fresh crisis in Warri over moves to dump Omadeli
Government Ekpemupolo

Fresh crisis is brewing in Warri, Delta State over clandestine moves to dump Weyinmi Omadeli as PDP Chairmanship candidate for Warri South-West Local Government less than 48 hours to the Local Government polls, Fresh Angle can authoritatively report.

Feelers have been rife that Ex-Niger Delta Militant, Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo is using his connection with President Goodluck Jonathan to press for the endorsement of his sibling, George Ekpemupolo as the favoured Chairmanship candidate despite having ran a single tenure earlier in line with the post Warri crisis accord between Itsekiri and Ijaws of PDP, which stipulated a single rotational tenure for each ethnic nationality.

Fresh Angle also scooped that while the Ijaw forces allegedly being led by Government Ekpemupolo are lobbying the Presidency to cajole Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to bow to George Ekpemupolo chairmanship aspiration or consider him running for the Warri South-West Constituency seat in the State House of Assembly as another option, a vibrant Itsekiri group, Itsekiri Consolidated Movement, ICM is threatening to truncate the Warri Peace process should Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan concedes to the Ijaw pressure.

The ICM in a statement signed by its Chairman and Public Relations Officer, Messrs Oritsegbegbemi Besidone and Franklin Metsese respectively and made available to Fresh Angle warned that any attempt to replace Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli as PDP chairmanship candidate and impose Hon. George Ekpemupolo as the next Council Chairman or seize the Warri South-West Constituency seat from the incumbent member representing the Local Government, Hon Daniel Mayuku will result to a major crisis capable of having a spill-over effect on the 2015 polls.

The Vice Chairman of Delta Waterways Security Committee, Chief Boro Opudu, who is also the Warri South-West PDP Chairman, had explained that the peace agreement between Ijaw and Itsekiri in the aftermath of Warri Crisis does not include the State Constituency seat in the Local Government, but the single tenure rotational chairmanship.

Meanwhile, some Itsekiri Youths this morning laid siege at the gate of Olu Palace in Warri, burning tyres in protest of the speculated move to replace Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli as PDP Chairmanship candidate for Warri South-West.

Burn-fire at Ajamimogha Road by Olu Palace Junction, Warri

Fresh Angle can also report that two attempts to burn Warri South PDP Secretariat late yesterday, Wednesday October 22 and at about 5: am Thursday October 23 was foiled, as the fire thrown into the Secretariat through two of the windows was put off by some vigilant youths so as to stop it from spreading. Some pieces of furniture were however affected by the fire, just as it could not be ascertained those responsible for the attack.
