Warri South-West Chairmanship Controversy: It’s the turn of Itsekiri or nothing, ICM avers

Radical Itsekiri Socio-Cultural group, Itsekiri Consolidated Movement, ICM has warned the leadership of the ruling PDP in Delta State that it would not accept anything short of an Itsekiri Chairmanship in Warri South-West Local Government area despite the swearing-in of Ijaw born, George Ekpemupolo as Chairman of the Council by the State Government.

The group which only last week raised alarm of moves to dump Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli PDP candidacy for Warri South-West, declared that its stance is not about any Itsekiri individual to head the council but the need for the PDP to stick to the one-tenure rotation agreement between Ijaws and Itsekiris of Warri South-West reached in the wake of the infamous Warri crisis.

Addressing selected Newsmen in Warri Tuesday October 28, National Chairman of ICM, Oritsegbegbemi Besidone queried the rationale behind jettisoning the peace deal barely two days to the Local Government poll by “substituting the authentic PDP candidate of Itsekiri extraction for an Ijaw man,” warning that it will not accept “this injustice and deliberate ploy to undermine the Itsekiri ethnic nationality as a result of powerful forces at Abuja”.

The ICM averred that no ethnic nationality in the country “has the monopoly of violence or threat to constituted authority to press home her demands(s)”, adding that “the Itsekiri nation despite its minority status will not continue to be the sacrificial lamb for sustenance of the Warri peace project by denying us our due right”.

It would be recalled that the substituted PDP Chairmanship candidate for Warri South-West, Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli has contracted fiery Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo to institute legal suit to reclaim what he described as his mandate.
