Tidi speaks on how to appreciate veteran soldiers
Dr. Michael Tidi, reading his speech

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, Dr. Michael Tidi, says demonstrating the spirit of peaceful co - existence and tolerance with one another as well as consultation and inter - ethnic harmony, are strategic ways of immortalizing veteran soldiers (heroes and heroines) who paid the supreme price during the world war and Nigerian civil wars.

Dr. Tidi, made the suggestion in Warri, Delta State, Saturday January 15, during the launching of emblem appeal fund / grand finale of this year's Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Whilst noting that the veteran soldiers exhibited, "the highest level of patriotism and loyalty "to the country, " by their supreme sacrifice", Dr. Tidi, posited: "It is therefore important for us to sustain the democratic governance, which has provided for amicable and organized means of resolving our differences."

He added: "Permit me to also use this occasion to encourage us to ensure we participate actively in the ongoing continuous voter's registration. This call has become important, because in democratic governance, your vote determines your future leader ( s) and as we carry out our civic duties in the course of the forthcoming elections, we should ensure that we eschew every form of violence and other electioneering vices that could truncate our peaceful co - existence."

In his opening address, the Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Warri South Chapter, Major Pius Unurhiere (CNC) stated that the annual celebration of armed forces remembrance day, has continued to fall in standard, even as he thanked the Warri South Local Government Chairman, Dr. Tidi, for reviving the celebration.

Major Unurhiere, averred: "I love to say a very big thanks to the Chairman of Warri South, Dr. Michael Tidi. Before now and many years back, this place (Erejuwa Playground, Warri) we are today, looked like a grave yard, not maintained, even where the unknown soldier is standing, the grass here was measuring height with him.

"I therefore request the honourable chairman for a better continuity, to make an office for the legionnaires as part of his legacy. Our roaming street children, will walk in here and find something to do for their lives, instead of going where they will put tyres on their neck for destruction."
