The need for quality legislation to address the peculiar developmental challenges in the country has been re-emphasized by the Catholic Bishop of Bomadi Vicariate His Lordship, Dr. Hyacinth Egbebo.
The cleric made this known at the 7th Assembly of Bomadi Local Government Legislative Arm when he made presentation of a 17-point agenda for consideration in the current legislative session, stressing that “as representative of the people, you should express the views and beliefs of your constituents and as far as possible reflect in your debates and policies”.
The 17-point agenda include electricity, good drainage system, portable drinking water supply, town planning, ultra-modern market, sports complex, state-of-the-arts hospital for better healthcare delivery system, security, early take-off of the state Polytechnic in Bomadi, completion of Bomadi-Ohoro road, skills acquisition centre, Youth Corps Members’ lodge and fencing of police station, amongst others.
He tasked the lawmakers to put in place legislation that will direct the present administration on the path of sustainable development so as to mitigate the over-dependency on exhaustible revenue source, particularly oil, which according to him will eventually run dry.
The Bishop, who promised the legislators of his continued prayers, also advised them to create good working relationship with the executive arm in order to move Bomadi Local Government Area forward, even as he told them “not to make it difficult to be carried along by the executive”.
The Leader of the House, Hon. Zidideke August in his response, thanked His Lordship for the presentation, describing the gesture as public confidence in the 7th Assembly. He promised that members will ensure that the 17-point agenda presented to the House will be considered by the House for inclusion in their debates.
The member representing ward 3in the council legislative arm, Hon. Eddy Muturu, the Treasurer to the Local Government council, Godwin Odubolu (JP) in their separate remarks, assured the visiting Bishop that after due consideration of some of the items they will be included in the council’s 2015 budget proposal.
