The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primary to choose the party’s standard flag-bearer ahead of the 2015 general election into the State House of Assembly was successfully conducted in Bomadi Local Government Area amid tight security, Our Bomadi Correspondent reports.
At St. Brendan’s College, Bomadi (former Government College) venue of the primaries, delegates were seen casting their votes for candidate of their choice. Amongst those that contested for the party’s ticket was a former Chairman of the party in the Local Government Area, Pius Binaebi Labo, who is seeking to wrestle power from the incumbent member of Bomadi Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Oboro Preyor. Other contestants were Eniye Ayaoge and Eniekebi Edein-otu.
Addressing delegates from all the wards, the party’s Returning Officer, Tony Ndanenu thanked them for their patience and attributed the delay in the conduct of the exercise to late arrival of the voting materials.
The primary which was conducted under heavy security presence was a smooth sail for Labo, who scored 42 votes out of the total 52 votes cast to emerge the party’s standard flag bearer.
The election was witnessed by the Local Government Independent National Electoral Officer, Mrs. Rita Osemeke and the member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Mutu.
Speaking to Our Bomadi Correspondent shortly after the primaries, Hon. Mutu expressed satisfaction over what he described as a “successful primary election in Bomadi” and thanked the State Leadership of the PDP for providing a level playing ground.
