Following our exclusive report that the All Progressives Congress, APC primaries for Warri South Constituency 1 in Warri was aborted in the early hours of yesterday as a result of alleged protest by some youths of the party and the subsequent intervention by security forces, a leading contender to the constituency seat, Barr. Robinson Ariyo has told Fresh Angle International in an exclusive mobile phone chat that he has been declared winner by leaders of the party at the State level who came to conduct the primaries.
According to Barr. Ariyo, the primary later held between 5 and 6:30 pm yesterday at the same Rewane Villa in Warri after it was disrupted about six hours earlier.
He explained that his opponent, Mr. Sunny Ejegi did not want the primary to hold, “hence he thought that the initial disturbance would deter the party. But it did not, hence he is giving that impression you (referring to our yesterday’s story) published”. Barr. Ariyo added, “after the attempted disruption, the primaries went on successfully and I have been declared winner. It was 96 to 42 votes”.
While noting that his party had to take “very precautionary measures”, the legal practitioner averred that counting of votes “had to be done elsewhere and I was declared winner accordingly”.
