Exclusive: Aggrieved Travel agents to stop Eastern Zone ‘election’ of NANTA slated for tomorrow

Classified pieces of information obtained weekend by Fresh Angle International, have revealed strategic moves by aggrieved travel agents to stop the planned Eastern Zone election of National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies, NANTA, slated for tomorrow, Tuesday February 15, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

This Newspaper scooped that the anger of the aggrieved travel agents, emanated from what they described as apparent exclusion from a repetitive leadership, who have allegedly contravened the electoral guideline, which states inter-alia: “Nomination forms can be picked up at the Zonal Secretariat and National Secretariat or requested for electronically from 20th of December 2021, a nominator will nominate whoever he/she desires to nominate and send the form back to the secretariat. The nominee will be sent the form for acceptance to contest and serve in that capacity by signing same and return on or before the 10" of January 2022 for zonal election”.

The travel agents, who have concluded plans to stage protest against holding of the perceived ‘selection’ fixed for tomorrow, had written the National leadership of NANTA through their Attorney (Iyoke and Company) to urgently intervene or they would be compelled to, “secure their rights by seeking legal redress in the event of a failure or inability to reach a peaceful resolution”.

In the letter dated February 10, 2022, the aggrieved travel agents; Messrs Hope Ehiogie (of ENIVED travels), Tony Amaete (of Tach Travo Limited) Emmanuel Uzum (of Trips.com), Joe Wee Travels and Tours Ltd., TOC Travels and Tours Ltd., Smart Flight Partners, Alfajr Wags Travels and Tours Ltd., Barr. Raymond Onyega (of Global Reliance Travels and Academy Ltd.) who said they are financial members of the Eastern Zone of the association, noted: “We have not been allowed nomination forms to contest zonal offices (despite being abundantly qualified to so do). We are fraught with the apparent irregularity that the same members holding zonal offices, were the same members reserved as the nominees for the election.

“We cannot shy away from the fact that we have not been allowed access to hand over notes of the previous officers, the constitution and composition of the caretaker committee and/or the electoral committee

“We are however confident that in line with fair bearing, you use your good offices to ensure we are included in participating in the election and allowed access to ensure we are included in participating in the election and allowed access to information, or in the alternative, allowed to select our own representatives, or an independent caretaker committee set up to take over the affairs of the Eastern Zone and aid its smooth transitioning/election of new officers”.

“The Board of Trustee of the zone will serve as the chairman of the electoral team and any other 3 members as resolved at the zonal general meeting, shall return as electoral officers to conduct the election, while the National Executive Council, will serve as observers at each zonal election”, this is another section of the electoral guideline, which has not been met ahead of the election fixed for tomorrow, the aggrieved travel agents, pointed out.
