Just In: Delta LG Workers may start enjoying 50 percent minimum wage this February

Senior staff of the 25 Local Government Councils in Delta State, may start enjoying 50% minimum wage effective from this February, Fresh Angle International has scooped.

Feelers to this effect, was extracted from a letter written by The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Delta State Secretariat, to all Heads of Personnel Management of the Local Government Councils.

The letter dated February 14, 2022 and signed by the State Secretary of NULGE, Comrade Akindutire Paul, noted: “Consequent upon on-going discussion on the payment of 50% minimum wage to Local Government workers and primary school teachers among relevant stakeholders saddled with the management of Local Government Councils in Delta State, I wish to graciously request you to prepare 50% of the approved consequential adjustment of salaries to senior staff of the Local Government Councils for the month of February, 2022 and forward same alongside with February, 2022 salaries to Data-infosec.

“This decision becomes necessary in view of recent developments and the time limit for the payment of February, 2022 salaries”.

Recall that the new minimum wage Act was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari on April 18, 2019 and Federal civil/public servants, have been enjoying 100% of the new wage, while state civil and public servants in Delta State, started enjoying the new minimum wage since 2020, leaving out primary school staff and senior staff at the local government level.

Local government workers from level 01 to 06, have been enjoying the new minimum wage for a while now and there has been a long-drawn battle between the leadership of NULGE and Nigeria Union of Teachers on one part versus the Delta State Government, on whether or not to accept the 50% consequential adjustment proposed by the state government for senior staff in the local government councils and public primary schools in the state.
