The Chairman, House Committee on Trade and Investment in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, on Wednesday March 30, began his consultation for reelection, with a visit to the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, HRM. Flanked by his supporters, Hon. Opuoru, a first-term lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency II in the State House of Assembly, told the Okere-Urhobo Monarch; “It’s not in your time Okere-Urhobo son, will do one term. I want your support. If I fail, you have failed.”

The former DESOPADEC Commissioner and lawmaker, anchored his reelection bid on his achievements for the past three years.

Hon. Opuoru, mentioned the tarring of Baca Street, leading to the Police “B” Division in Warri, the road from the popular Okumagba Estate Area, reconstruction of the blown off roof at a six classrooms - block in Olodi Primary School, building of two six classrooms-block at Essi College I &II, on-going construction works at College of Commerce, Warri and the construction of toilet facility at Ighogbadu Primary School, as some of the projects he has attracted to Warri South Constituency II.

He stated: “Eight public primary and secondary schools under Warri South Constituency II in Warri South Local Government Area; vis-à-vis Ikengbuwa, Pessu, Igbudu, Olodi and Ighogbadu Primary Schools as well as Edjeba Secondary School and Essi College I and II respectively, received new 540 desks and 60 teachers’ tables/chairs, courtesy of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, as part of my efforts to boost primary and secondary education in Warri South Constituency II”

“I have been empowering over three hundred persons monthly, with five thousand naira each, as a way of helping humanity. When calculated monthly, it amounts to one million, eight hundred and ten thousand naira, totaling eighty six million naira yearly”, the lawmaker, disclosed.

In his response, the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, HRM. Emmanuel Ono Okumagba, Okumagba II, implored the lawmaker to be focused in his political pursuit, especially as it concerns the 2023 election into the Delta State House of Assembly.

“What you think is good for your people, continue. What you think is good for you, will come to you,” the Monarch, pronounced.

Earlier, a former member of Warri South Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Davis Akhigbe, stressed the need for the Okere-Urhobo King to give his royal backing to Hon. Opuoru, saying, the lawmaker, is still on duty.

According to Mr. Akhigbe, Hon. Opuoru, has done well in the areas of infrastructural and human capital development. 

The Obarisi of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom and former Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Chief Jude Onovughe Igherebuo, a Principal Officer of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. (Chief) Ogheneochuko Eyekpimi,  Current member of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Joy Ojumudo, the immediate past Councilor that represented Okumagba Ward II in Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Paul Jessa, former member of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Richard Okoro, popular PDP grassroots leader in Warri, Mr. Federal Akumagba, Chairman Okumagba II, Ward 12, Mr. Lawrence Akpoveso and some members of Arewa Community in Warri, were on ground during Hon. Opuoru’s consultative visit to the Okere-Urhobo Monarch.
