The leadership of National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS has presented an award to Prince David Aboyowa Omaghomi in recognition of his immense contributions toward educational advancement and youth development “not only in Iwere land, but in Nigeria at large”.

In an address shortly before presenting the award in Warri, the newly elected National President of NAIS, Comrade Otikpere Precious noted that the award is based on Prince David Omaghomi’s pragmatic leadership style, artistry, accessibility and “unflinching and total commitment to students as well as youth empowerment”, adding that Prince Omaghomi has contributed to curbing social vices in the society.

While noting that lack of educational consciousness, restiveness and militancy are having negative impact on Itsekiri youths, Comrade Otikpere disclosed that a programme that will see Itsekiri students acquire skills in soap making, bead making, craft and bag making amongst other skills will soon be organized by the association as antidote to the nation’s over-dependence on crude oil.

He appealed to Prince Omaghomi to continue with his support to Itsekiri students as well as provide assistance to Itsekiri students in need of industrial training, job placements and scholarships as he has been doing.

Responding, Prince Omaghomi commended NAIS for being the only organization in Iwere land without a faction explained that his support for Itsekiri students and graduates’ association “is borne out of the need to promote the intellectual struggle for Itsekiri course”.

The PDP Chieftain and Environmentalist cautioned against disrespect for the Olu of Warri and other Itsekiri leaders, stressing that it is reducing the dignity Itsekiri people are known for and splitting our collective strength.

While admonishing Itsekiri students to shun drug abuse, examination malpractices and other social vices capable of negatively affecting their academic pursuit, Prince Omaghomi stressed the need for NAIG and

NAIS to be insulated from the politics of Warri Kingdom. He promised to continually lend his support to institutions that are genuinely working towards Itsekiri progress.

It will be recalled that this same award of recognition was given by NAIS to notable Itsekiri leaders like Pa J.O.S Ayomike and Chief Rita Lori amongst others, during the NAIS National convention in December 2014.
