The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG has warned that it “will be more disastrous to postpone the February 2015 polls” than going ahead to conduct the election, calling on INEC to redouble its effort in the distribution of permanent voter card, PVC, especially in the coastal communities.
In a statement issued at the end of its 2015 maiden meeting held in Warri, Delta State, the Itsekiri graduates’ association condemned call for the postponement of the poll by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd.) and enjoined INEC, the federal government as well as other relevant agencies to ensure peaceful and non-violence polls by providing a level playing ground for all political parties.
The statement which was signed by National President of NAIG, Comrade Alero Tenumah and the association’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Dennis Mene, stressed that INEC should make sure that vote of the electorates count and politicians should guide their utterances in the build-up to the hugely anticipated polls, so as “not to plunge the nation into violence”.
The association’s statement which thanked Chairman of Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILOT, Pa. J.O.S. Ayomike, Hon. Daniel Reyenieju of the House of Representatives, Project Coordinator of Niger Delta Environmental Restoration Project, Prince David Omaghomi, Dr. Alex Ideh and one time Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government, Hon. David Tonwe among other distinguished Itsekiri sons and daughters for their contribution towards the achievements of NAIG in 2014, advised politicians to make their campaigns issue based and jettison sentimental issues like religion, ethnicity and regionalism.
