Kogi State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, has debunked rumours making the rounds that the party has anointed candidate(s) for different elective offices in the forthcoming general elections.
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that Hon. Abdullahi, stated this today, Wednesday April 13, while clearing the air, saying there will be a level playing ground for every eligible member of the party, who wish to contest for any position.
“The All Progressives Congress, is a political party anchored on progressivism philosophy. It is a party with a hallmark of internal democracy and equal opportunity.
"The playing field is level for all. The rules will be applied equally and no one will be favoured nor will anyone be disadvantaged. Our party has no preferred candidate for any office whatsoever.
“It is the tradition of our party to encourage consensus candidate among the aspirants themselves where practicable. This is to minimize misgivings, as the party will never impose any candidate for any elective office”, he affirmed.
He said candidates would emerge from the process approved by the constitution of the party and the electoral law, noting that the law was clear on the mode of primaries for political parties to choose their candidates for the elections, which include direct, indirect and consensus.
