DELSU to launch N30 Billion endowment fund, commission multiple projects

Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, is set to launch a 30billion naira endowment fund and commission strategic infrastructural projects, as part of activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary and 14th convocation ceremonies, Fresh Angle International can report

The Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga, told newsmen yesterday at the institution’s main campus at Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State that the N30billion endowment fund, would be used to execute infrastructural projects and programmes in the university.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that Faculty of Pharmacy Complex, access link roads to faculty of Pharmacy, Animal House, Faculty of Science as well as Faculty of Arts Complex, Department of Nursing Science Extension, Education Technology building and foundation stone laying ceremony for Faculty of Management Sciences complex, are some of the projects lined up for commissioning during the eight – day event programmed to commemorate  the 30th  anniversary and 14th convocation ceremonies of the Delta State government owned  institution.

The event began Friday April 22 with Jumat Service and was followed with an Interdenominational Church Service held Sunday April 24 at St. Paul Catholic Chapel, Site II, DELSU, Abraka, 

Prof. Egwunyenga, declared that the Faculty of Management Sciences, will be part of his legacy projects, assuring of his resolve to complete it and build more hostels for the increasing number of students in the university, before the expiration of his tenure as VC.

According to Prof. Egwunyenga, DELSU was ranked 14^th among over 200 Universities in Nigeria, number one state university with the highest number of professors in the South-South geopolitical zone -2021, 5th most efficient state university nationwide-2021 and 4th highest ranking state university in knowledge economy nationwide-2021, amongst other notable achievements in recent times.

He commended Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, “for his administration’s support to the university, since I assumed office in 2019” and praised principal officers of the institution, both academic and non-academic staffers, for their support.

The DELSU VC commissioned Delta State University Integrated Data Centre, which was in collaboration with Lagos State University. The centre will provide digitalized transcript within 24hours to former students, current students, digitalized university registry and serve as consult to other institutions.

Other activities outlined for the celebration include; award of Diplomas, Admission into First Degrees, Higher Degrees and Prizes, Investiture of Professor Emeritus on Professor Eric A. Arubayi and Professor Sam Ukala (Posthumously), Conferment of Honorary Degrees on HRM, Hon. Justice Francis Fedode Tabai and Chief Jim James Ovia, MFR, CON.
