NGO donates food items to vulnerable Population in Kogi


 

In a bid to cushion the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, a none Governmental Organization, Victims Support fund, (VSF)  in collaboration with challenged Parenthood Initiative, (CPI) have donated food items to vulnerable populations in Lokoja  Local Government Area of Kogi State.
 
Speaking on Tuesday, during the distribution of the phase IV VSF Covid-19 intervention to vulnerable population in Lokoja, the Executive Director of CPI Eunice Abimbola Agbogun said the Nigeria Foundation for Support of Victims of Terrorism — Victim Support Fund (VSF) is a programme sponsored by a none governmental organisation that provides interventions to support victims who have been affected by terrorism and other form of calamity like the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
 
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that Agbogun explained that, the emergency support programme is aimed to strengthen food supply to vulnerable households in Kogi State that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
 
She stated that, since the advent of COVID-19, CPI, including other none governmental organisations have rolled out different kinds of intervention programmes to help alleviate the health, social and economic hardship caused  by COVID-19 pandemic on citizens of Kogi State, especially the vulnerable groups.
 
Continuing she said, "this COVID-19 palliative is not a government project. It is funded by Victim Support Fund, a none governmental organisation and CPI is on the lead to profile and deliver the food items to the vulnerable groups in selected communities in Lokoja and Ogori-Magongo LGA. 
 
 
 
"The Chairman of the Victims Support Fund Committee, General TY Danjuma (Rtd), had on the 30th of March 2020, set up a Taskforce to drive VSF intervention on the Coronavirus pandemic. The taskforce was charged with the mandate to design interventions that will directly contribute to the Federal Government's prevention and mitigation strategy, which has been through the provision of food support to vulnerable families/households as palliative measures. 
 
 
 
"Having successfully implemented her phases 1- 3 interventions in 29 States and the FCT through the provision of food palliatives, medical consumables, personal protective equipment; water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and institutional supports of various degrees; the need for a national coverage/focus on its interventions has therefore necessitated phase IV of the COVID-19 intervention".
 
 
Items distributed were bags of rice, wheats, garri, vegetable oil and salt.
 
 
A total of 150 vulnerable persons benefited from the Victims support fund in Lokoja Local Government Area in Kogi State.
